LA CROSSE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The city of La Crosse is putting a spotlight on public transportation. This Friday marks “Transit Equity Day”, and the city is holding events throughout the week highlighting its transit system. Ride fares are waved this week. Organizers hope new riders will utilize public transit as a viable alternative for travel.

“We’re not asking you to get rid of your car, but if you’re heading downtown in a crowded area, why not allow us to get you there safely where you don’t have to worry about parking,” said Adam Lorentz, director of municipal transit in La Crosse.

February 4th is recognized as “Transit Equity Day” in honor of Rosa Parks’ birthday. The tradition was started in 2018 by a national network of community organizations, environmental groups, and transit rider unions.
