Two people dead after Monday morning crash near Lake Wissota

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Two people were killed in a crash Monday morning in Chippewa County.

The crash happened after 11 AM on State Highway 29, just east of the exit to Lake Wissota.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says a semi-trailer was headed west on “29” when an east-bound car crossed through the median and collided with the semi.

The driver of the car and a passenger were killed. No names or ages were released.

The semi driver was not hurt.

Eastbound lanes of Highway 29 were closed for hours this afternoon.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the crash.

UPDATE: 5/12/21

We now know the names of the mother and son who died in a crash yesterday in Chippewa County.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says a car driven by 38-year-old Camellia Kelch of Cadott was headed east on State Highway 29 around 11 am Monday when she crossed through the median and collided with a semi-trailer going west.

Kelch and her 13-year-old son, Isaiah, both died in the crash.

The semi driver was not hurt.
