Two people injured in crashes which shut down Highway 53

Two people are hurt after two crashes along Highway 53 between Eau Claire and Altoona.

The first crash happened Thursday in the northbound lanes of 53 between Clairemont Avenue and River Prairie Drive. Altoona Police report two people were thrown from a vehicle and taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Our crew on the scene also saw a crashed semi tractor trailer in the southbound lanes. Several agencies responded to the scene.

Officer Timothy Peterson with the Altoona Police Department says “It’s really a team effort with everybody in the area. We had help today from the Eau Claire Sheriff, Eau Claire police, State Patrol, along with Township fire, Altoona fire, Eau Claire fire and the tow companies to get the vehicles off the roadway as fast as possible, get the people to help they need as fast as possible, and get traffic moving fast.”

The crashes forced law enforcement to close several on-ramps to highway 53. diverting traffic and causing delays on Hastings Way.
