UK variant found in Trempealeau County

TREMPEALEAU COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The first COVID-19 case of the UK variant has been found in Trempealeau County according to the health department.

The b-1-1-7 strain, more commonly known as the UK variant, is easily transmittable. The variant case was found through genome sequencing; however, it is unknown where the person contracted the strain.

Research has found the COVID-19 vaccines do provide protection against the b-1-17 strain.

Experts say to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and all its variants. It’s important to still wear masks, social distance, and wash your hands.
