Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The UW-system is continuing its COVID-19 surge testing sites into the spring. System President Tommy Thompson says most of the 22 surge testing sites were scheduled to close, but the federal government will be providing 140-thousand more antigen tests. He says more than 220-thousand free tests have been given through last week.
“The beauty of it is we took 17,000 individuals that tested positive and quarantined those individuals and as a result, we were able to really improve the quality of health because if we wouldn’t have taken those individuals out, those individuals could have infected others,” said Thomson.
UW- La Crosse will start COVID-19 testing again on Monday, February 1 at the Cartwright Center.
UW-Eau Claire will resume on Tuesday, February 2, this time at Zorn Arena instead of Memorial High School.
UW-Stout will conduct testing at the sports and fitness center starting February 1.
Thompson expects the testing to continue at least through April 11.
