Wisconsin now requires 10-digit calling

Local News

MADISON, Wisc. (WLAX) — Anyone wanting to make a call in Wisconsin will now have to use the area code–even when calling a local number.

The new 10-digit dialing requirement will affect all of Wisconsin’s six area codes, as well as more than two dozen other states that have not already switched.

The change comes as the Federal Communications Commission established 9-8-8 as the new nationwide phone number for suicide prevention and mental health.
