RICE LAKE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – One area school district is looking to make a change to its policy related to transgender students. It’s focus is on parental or guardian consent.
The Rice Lake Area School Board weighed in on a change to its policies for transgender students. The main concern: the role of parents in the process
“Policy 411 rule 2 outlines the rice lake area school districts protocol for transgender students.”
As it stands, there’s no language stating the parents’ role in the process of something like the student wanting to go by a different name at school. This proposed change would include parental notification. While some are concerned with the possible addition to the policy, others at last night’s meeting supported it.
“Oh, it’s definitely stings a little for the school, though.”
“It will give us parents the opportunity to confront something that may be downright terrifying at first and face them head on.”
“The board voted to approve the policy changes. The district says it will be working on a timeline for when it will be implemented and what it exactly will look like.”
