Wisconsin State Patrol reminds public to follow ‘Move Over Law’

Local News

Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Wisconsin State Patrol is stressing the importance of highway safety following Monday’s 3-vehicle crash along Interstate 94.

A State Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle on the side of the highway when the squad car was struck from behind, sending all three drivers to area hospitals.

Trooper Kyle Devries reminds people it is required by law to move over or slow down when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle with its lights on.

“We don’t have eyes in the back of our heads, we do have a little bit of sixth sense, that’s out there but when we’re focused on a traffic stop, we’re relying on that community’s voluntary compliance to pay attention, follow that move over law,” said Devries.

Devries adds when emergency vehicles are seeking the right of way from in front or behind, your vehicle. You are required to pull over to the right, it is not just a courtesy.
