CHRISTIANA, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A Wisconsin woman faces possible charges after she and her child were injured in a crash early Sunday morning in the town of Christiana.

Vernon County deputies responded to the crash on County Road P near Lars Hill Road just after 4:00 AM Sunday.

The sheriff says 44-year-old Jennifer Melvin reported hitting a tree after falling asleep and losing control.

According to the report Melvin had her five-year-old child in the car, both had to be extricated and were taken to the hospital.

Authorities say Melvin was not wearing her seatbelt and her five-year-old was in the front passenger seat and wasn’t secured to a booster seat.

The sheriff’s office is recommending Melvin be charged with injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle with a passenger under the age of 16.
