LAKE WISSOTA, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A popular Lake Wissota restaurant isn’t going to stay closed forever. After closing late last year, Wissota High Shores Supper Club will reopen in May with new ownership. First News at Nine’s Max Cotton spoke with a new owner who shares his thoughts on why he bought it and what the restaurant means to him.
“High Shores has always been a long-standing family tradition for myself and my wife,” said Brian Wogernese, owner of Wissota High Shores Supper Club.
Wogernese grew up going to the High Shores restaurant on Lake Wissota. The restaurant, which has had multiple owners and names throughout the years, was most recently known as “Loopy’s High Shores Supper Club.”
It closed last October as business slowed during the coronavirus pandemic. After hearing it closed, he knew he had to step in and save it.
“We just wanted it open for the community, that’s really it. It’s more of an emotional investment than it is financial for us,” said Wogernese.
Wogernese says when it reopens, Wissota High Shores will still have the same supper club feel. However, he is making some changes.
“The bar area is going to be completely redone. We’re going to try to tie that into the outdoor patio a little more so there’ll be open doors, half-garage doors out to the patio area to kind of tie that together,” said Wogernese.
He says he’s also bringing back the salad bar once the pandemic ends, as well as other supper club staples.
In addition to owning restaurants, Worgernese is the CEO of Cobblestone Hotels. In his time in the hospitality industry, he’s never seen excitement like what people are feeling about High Shores.
“Our company has built over 100 hotels in the last 20 years. We have never had the fanfare that this has. This has gotten out there. People knew more about this than before we even announced anything the other day,” said Wogernese.
He’s excited for the day when it’s packed again like it was during his childhood.
