Woman found dead after La Crosse house fire

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A woman is dead following a house fire last night in the Coulee Region.

According to the La Crosse Fire Department, the body of Peggy Crowley, was found in her home on the 400-Block of South 22nd Street.

Crews responded to a report of a smoke detector going off and the smell of smoke just before eight.

By the time crews arrived, the fire had extinguished itself. Crowley’s body was found after a search of the home. Her residence had heavy fire and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
