WOOD COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A suspect is charged in a Wood County homicide case from more than 30 years ago.

A criminal complaint was unsealed, charging 57-year-old John Sarver of Port Edwards with one count of first-degree murder. He’s accused of killing 73-year-old Eleanore Roberts.

She was found stabbed and beaten to death in her home in the town of Saratoga in November 1984. Authorities say palmprints inside Roberts bathroom match those of Sarver. Wood County Sheriff, Shawn Becker says his department never gave up working on this case.

“You know, I remember at the time when this occurred, our investigators at the scene processed that scene, collected evidence that we still have today. That helped us get to where we’re at today,” said Becker.

Sarver is being held in the Wood County Jail.
