RUSK COUNTY Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – On the anniversary of the Normandy landings that were part of World War Two, a veteran who was there was laid to rest. Elmer Wisherd lived to be 101 years old. From Rusk County, he flew a C-47 on D-day in 1944.

Friends, family, and fellow vets gathered at Bruce Cemetery to honor Wisherd. Jim Edming knew Wisherd for over 60 years. He describes his longtime friend as a standup guy who touched the lives of many

“He was on the school board when I was a kid in school. He was manager of the airport for a number of years, went around to speaking engagements and, you know, just really became part of the community. The community really respected him.”

Wisherd’s friends say it was humbling to see all the people that came to pay their respects. They say today was a fitting send off for their friend.
