This warmer weather is causing huge headaches for Eau Claire homeowners as many are experiencing significant flooding from melting snow.
Neighbors at the Mill Ridge Estates worked to re-route the melting snow away from their window wells in order to stop the water from breaking glass or even just seeping through cracks.
Homeowner Geraldine Kunkel said when she woke up Thursday morning, around three inches of water was in her basement after the melted snow broke a window.
“I was frightened at first. It just surprised me. I just couldn’t believe this was happening,” said Kunkel.
“… Trying to make a different route for the water coming off the hill. Trying to make it, so it runs into the culvert that runs along the road…,” said Geraldines daughter, Susan.
Kunkel said the flooding isn’t covered under her homeowner’s insurance, leaving her to foot the bill for the damage.
You can purchase flooding insurance separately, however, it does take 30 days before the policy goes into effect.
