Names released of those involved in an officer-involved death investigation in Chippewa County

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – We now know the names of those involved in an officer-involved death investigation in Chippewa County.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice says Sergeant Martin Folczyk with the Chippewa county sheriff’s office stopped a person on a moped, 30-year-old Lance Stelzer, just after seven Friday night near Cadott.

During the stop. Stelzer and Sergeant Folczyk got into a fight.

Stelzer reportedly sprayed Folczyk with a substance.

Folczyk then shot Stelzer who died before reaching the hospital.

Per department policy, Folczyk is on administrative leave.

The Eau Claire Police Department will assist the DOJ’s division of criminal investigation on this case.
