Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The first over-the-counter birth control pill could be available soon in the United States. HRA Pharma announced Monday it applied to the FDA to make its birth control pill called Opill available over the counter.

If the application is approved, it would be the first daily birth control pill available without a prescription in the US. The company said in a news release, the switch from prescription would help even more women access contraception without unnecessary barriers.
