One Person Taken to Hospital After Canopy at Gas Station Collapses

News

One person was taken to the hospital after a canopy at an Eau Claire gas station collapsed Sunday afternoon.

It happened just after noon at the Mega Holiday gas station on Birch Street.

The driver of a pickup truck with a plow attachment was getting gas when the structure collapsed, he was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
Police checked the surveillance cameras to make sure that there wasn’t anyone else underneath the canopy.

“He was just getting out of his vehicle, he heard some rumbling and people looking above him and running away so he quickly tucked away inside his truck and got protected by the vehicle itself,” said Eau Claire Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief, Joe Kelly.

This was the third similar incident fire officials responded to Sunday including a partial roof collapse at A-to-Z Towing and a mobile home roof collapse on Seymour Road. There were no injuries reported from either incident.

Officials say the incidents Sunday are a reminder of how heavy snow can be, and importance of getting it cleared off.
