A petition started by a Fairchild community member already has around online 550 signatures asking Eau Claire County to re-think relocating sex offenders in the area.
Since October an Eau Claire County temporary committee has been looking for a place to relocate sex offenders up for supervised release.
A county owned property located off of U.S. 12 in Fairchild is being considered by the committee.
Rochelle Hoffman started the petition after she says the community was recently informed of the possibility of sex offenders being relocated in the area.
She says there are also around 250 paper signatures that have been collected from the elderly and Amish community members. That brings the total signatures up to around 750.
Hoffman also says community members believe the village doesn’t have enough resources to rehabilitate sex offenders.
