You can be Santa for a shelter pet as part of a longtime fundraiser for the Eau Claire County Humane Association.
Dogs, cats, rabbits – putting a face to where your Santa Paws purchase is going.
The annual fundraiser for the Eau Claire County Humane Association features handmade ornaments.
“This year instead of our one volunteer who used to do all of them, like 4,000 paws, we had a committee that put them all together. So, it was really a group effort, and a lot of hard work. A lot of labor goes into these paws that represent all of our animals from this entire year that have been through the shelter,”said Karen Rabideaux with ECCHA.
Rabideaux says the Santa Paws ornaments fit almost any budget, ranging from $5 to $100, but you can always give more or less.
“And we’ll accept any donation. So, people can feel free to give what they want,” said Rabideaux.
The amount you give is donated to ECCHA to pay for the animals’ needs.
“100 percent goes back to the Eau Claire Humane Association. It’s used for general operating especially because just to care for one animal a day we average about $15 a day for just one. Right now, we’re at about 200 animals in our care. That adds up on a daily basis, so this means a huge deal for the shelter and what we can do for the animals,” she said.
Santa Paws ornaments can be found on Christmas trees at nearly 50 area businesses, including local veterinary offices.
You can also stop out at the Eau Claire County Humane Association to grab your ornament and look at the adoptable pets.
It’s a gift with a purpose for the pet person in your life.
“I know for myself I have older relatives that they don’t need any more things, so why not give back to the community, and they get a cute ornament for their tree,” said Rabideaux.
Santa Paws is the largest fundraiser for the Eau Claire County Humane Association, and this year’s goal is $25,000.
