For more than a week, Mother Nature has been relentless with snow and bitterly cold temperatures.
In the city of Eau Claire, snow plow drivers have been working 12-hour shifts for 15 straight days to clear roads.
But when will crews start hauling it away?
Street Maintenance Manager Steven Thompson says there’s not enough time in between the recent snowfalls to haul the snow away just yet.
He says the snow removal operation requires trucks to switch out the plows and the salting and sanding equipment.
Thompson says crews are still cleaning up snow from Sunday and preparing for Tuesday, but he says there are areas of concern, such as lane width and reduced visibility at intersections with high snow piles in Eau Claire.
“We’ve seen that we have pretty good lane width yet, this next storm is probably going to crowd it a little bit. The operators will continue to push it back as far as they can,” said Thompson.
He says if lanes are getting really narrow, those will be prioritized and hauled as soon as possible.
