For the first time since 2013, snowmobile trails are back open in Eau Claire County. The Eau Claire County Parks and Forest department says trails have been groomed and are in fair to good condition for the snow we have. The department adds not all ditches are filled in and snowmobilers should use caution. Ron Larson with the association of Wisconsin snowmobile clubs says opening weekend of the trails is always an exciting time.
Ron Larson: “There really is no normal time. It’s whenever we get enough snow to open it up. Ride safe. That’s another consideration before we open the trails, is to make sure the trails are safe for people.”
Larson says he hopes the trails stay open for a long period of time this year to make up for the lack of snow in years past. He added snowmobile trails in other counties may not be open yet, so be sure to check before you ride across county lines.
