Staying safe on Wisconsin rivers

Officials are warning people to be cautious on Wisconsin rivers after several canoes capsized this weekend on the Yahara river, killing one 14-year-old girl.

This time of year, waters are high and currents can be dangerously fast for paddlers.
The Department of Natural Resources recommends making sure you’re familiar with the waters you’ll be paddling on.

Officials also say you should keep your boat stocked with flotation devices like boat cushions and to make sure you are always wearing a life vest .
