Suspect in Closs Case Makes First Court Appearance

The man accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old-girl and killing her parents mades his first court appearance Monday.

Jake Patterson, 21, is accused of kidnapping Jayme Closs and killing the teen’s parents in their home in Barron on Oct. 15.

The Barron County District Attorney is charging Patterson with two counts of first degree homicide, one count of kidnapping and one count of armed burglary.

Patterson told investigators that he decided to kidnap Jayme after seeing her get on a school bus.
He also said he did not know Jayme’s name until after he kidnapped her and didn’t know Jayme’s parents’ names until seeing them in news reports.

Jayme Closs escaped the home last Thursday and found help.

The judge has set his bond at $5 million and he is due back in court February 6 at 11:00 a.m.
