Thousands of Dollars in Quarters Stolen from Washer/Dryer Units

The Chippewa Falls Police Department is investigating after thousands of dollars in quarters were stolen from local apartment complexes.

Property managers at three apartment complexes reported 25 washer/dryer units were broken into and the suspect(s) got away with $3,000-$5,000 worth of quarters.

The suspect(s) drilled out the locks of the coin boxes, took the coins and returned the boxes to the machines. Officials say based on the way they were broken into, the suspect(s) were very knowledgeable and only selected machines with specific locks and left others untouched.

The thefts were reported on Dec. 10, but officials say it is likely the thefts took place a few days before being noticed.

If you have any information on the theft, you can contact the Chippewa Falls Police Department at 715-723-4424.
