Two men made an appearance in Eau Claire County Court Wednesday in connection to a possible child abduction case.
The Eau Claire Police Department says on Monday, a 17-year-old male went to Hobby Lobby and told an employee he had been abducted.
The two suspects are identified as 25-year-old Tyler Brand and 36-year-old Khvyn Vhasenglu.
Brand is a registered sex offender.
A criminal complaint says after responding, police confirmed the victim was listed as a missing child from Oshkosh.
“The initial investigation determined that Brand had met the juvenile through a social networking application last week in Oshkosh,” said Deputy Chief Matt Rokus, of the Eau Claire Police Department.
“Brand and the victim traveled to the Fox Valley during that tim,“Rokus said.
Rokus said the juvenile told Brand that he wanted to go home, but Brand wouldn’t allow him to leave.
Investigators say during a search of the suspect’s vehicle, police found a significant amount of drugs and sex items.
“During our initial investigation in the Oakwood Mall parking lot, our officers did locate a significant amount of illegal drugs – methamphetamine, psilocin, mushrooms, and marijuana,” said Rokus.
A criminal complaint says the victim was forced by brand and Vhasenglu to have sex with an older male in Menasha for $200.
The complaint says the victim was taken to the hospital where he told staff he believed the defendants were taking him to Minneapolis before he was able to escape.
Brand was given a $50,000 signature bond and Vhasenglu is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
Both men are also facing four drug charges each.
Police say this is an active and ongoing investigation.
