Severe storms in the southern plains have left the region in need of resources and relief. Now members of the Western Wisconsin Red Cross are on their way to help out. One group of volunteers left this morning. Donna Borner, a shelter manager with the Red Cross, is leaving tomorrow. After first traveling to Oklahoma City, they will decide where to go from there.
Donna Borner: “States have very qualified volunteers. They’ve trained, they’ve prepared and they can handle most of the disasters within their state. When it starts escalating and they get multiple disasters within their state, then they might reach out to the other volunteers within the Red Cross family.”
Borner says it’s dangerous work, but it brings her joy to know she’s helping those who need it most.
