WI Gun Laws

How did Nikolas Cruz obtain a weapon for the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School? He is believed to have been armed with an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle with multiple magazines.

Purchasing a gun in Wisconsin comes with a process. The law states you must be 18 years of age, have an instant criminal background check performed by the FBI, fill out 15 to 20 minutes of paperwork, and you could be the owner of a brand-new AR-15 semi-automatic rifle: the same gun used to kill 17 people at a high school in parkland Florida

Luke Weyers, manager at General Coin and Gun says it’s typically bought for recreational use around here. Weyers says there’s an added awareness for a gun sale, in response to the shooting, and some locals say the gun sale laws need change.

Weyers emphasized a lack of gun knowledge and exposure to violence that’s influencing today’s children.
