EAU CLAIRE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – With school set to start soon, parents and students are on the lookout for school supplies. However, not everyone can afford a new backpack or binders.

That’s why organizations throughout western Wisconsin are holding school supply donation drives. The goal is to make sure every child is ready for the first day back in the classroom.

In Eau Claire, local churches again are teaming up with the Eau Claire Area School District for “We Care Eau Claire.”

Each year, volunteers fill backpacks full of school supplies for students. They’ll be handed out at an event on August 22nd at Phoenix Park.

Prevail bank is one of the businesses supporting the initiative.

“It feels fantastic to be able to lend a hand and help out. These kids are our future. These are the next generation of employees that come through the Chippewa Valley and whatever we can do to help out, we will do that.”

In addition to “We Care Eau Claire”, the Menomonie Lion’s Club is hosting its “Stuff the Bus” drive again this year.
