LA CROSSE/EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Wisconsin State Patrol is warning drivers to watch out for deer.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Seven people have died and more than 300 were injured in deer-related car crashes this year as of last week.
A state patrolman says it’s important you slow down and stay alert for deer.
If you see one, try to stop. If you can’t, don’t swerve.
Swerving can cause a much larger crash.
“Car-deer crashes are very serious. They can result in injury or death to the motorist and it’s not a situation to be taken lightly.”
Schummer says call 9-1-1 if someone’s injured in the crash.
If not, alert the local sheriff’s office.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says deer are more common this time of year, as mating season is around the corner.
