Yahoo Hacking Breach

News
The revelation that information has been stolen from more than a-billion yahoo accounts…
Is putting that company’s future at risk.
Fox news chief correspondent Jonathan hunt has an update from Los Angeles.

It’s the largest data breach in history…
One billion accounts targeted, a vast amount of information stolen…
E-mail addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, security questions and answers, passwords too…
The white house confirmed the FBI is now involved…

Josh Earnest / white house press secretary:
“I can’t speak from here on the potential scope of the breach, and what might be vulnerable… What I can say is the FBI is investigating the matter.”

Yahoo stock tumbled today (12/15) and the breach could affect its deal with Verizon…
Which agreed to pay $4.8 billion dollars for yahoo’s digital operations earlier this year (2016) …
According to press reports experts say that the deal could, at worst, fall through…
Or at the very least Verizon might want to re-negotiate the price…

According to press reports Verizon’s legal team is considering pulling out of the deal…
Or at the very least renegotiating the price…

Verizon issued a statement which said in part, quote:

“We will evaluate the situation as yahoo continues its investigation. We will review the impact of this new development before reaching any final conclusions.”

And, outside experts warn, the hackers will keep coming…

Donaldson says: “I think this is the tip of the spear of what we’re going to see…”

Yahoo claims no financial or banking information was accessed by the hackers…
But outside experts say the information the hackers did get can potentially provide a doorway…
Because so many of people us use the same passwords for so many sites…

Will Donaldson / data security consultant:
“so even if a person doesn’t keep their financial information or medical information by having the credentials and logging in its easy to spoof that person, it’s easy to act as that person.”

Jonathan Hunt / Fox news:
This one billion account hack happened about a year before a 500 *million* account breach…
That yahoo has already made public… One and a half billion accounts in total…
And a stark reminder that whether it’s on an international, national, or individual level…
Cyber security is going to be a major issue in 2017.
