Alex Smith retires from the NFL after 16 seasons

Alex Smith announced he is retiring on Instagram. The former No. 1 overall pick announced that he was retiring from the NFL one year after making an incredible comeback from a gruesome knee injury. The injury required 17 surgeries.

An inspiration to all.

Alex Smith played for the Washington Football Team was drafted No. 1 overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2005. Smith was then traded to the Kansas City Chiefs before ultimately ending up in Washington.

The 36-year-old is a three-time Pro Bowler who recently won the 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.
