BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)A Louisiana State University football player was arrested and accused of abusing his girlfriend and destroying her personal items, authorities said.

Ray Parker, 20, was charged Wednesday with battery of a dating partner and simple criminal damage to property, news outlets reported. He bonded out of jail Thursday morning, KTBS-TV reported.

LSU police responded to an on-campus apartment around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

An arrest warrant said Parker went to the woman’s apartment to talk but later ”became enraged during the conversation” and ”began to destroy” the victim’s apartment.

The warrant said Parker threw items around the room, destroyed the victim’s phone and pushed her into a dresser, leaving a scrape on her hip. The phone was valued at $1,600, according to police.

Police said Parker later ”refused to answer any questions.”

Parker was an outside linebacker for LSU last season but switched to defensive end.

After his arrest, LSU coach Ed Orgeron said Parker was indefinitely suspended for violation of team rules. Parker’s name was later removed from the official roster on the team’s website.

It’s unclear whether Parker had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
