KOHLER, Wis. (WFRV) — Jordan Spieth entered the second round of the PGA Championship at 1-under, five shots of the lead.

By mid-afternoon Friday, Spieth was sitting at 6-under, one shot behind leader David Lingmerth (-7).  Spieth teed off just after 8 a.m. local time, and said the course conditions were different compared to Thursday afternoon.

“I felt like for us at least three shots difference,” he said during his post-round press conference.  “I think we were actually talking about it, I think the actual difference between the two waves was only a stroke and a half, which was surprising, but it felt like, as far as rounds under par, I think there was less than half.”

Spieth, who started on the 10th hole, has a span of four birdies in six holes.  He had a few putts that could have put him to 8- or possibly 9-under.

But, Spieth said he’s in a good position for the weekend.

“Probably, in my mind, I’ll be four or five back, I think (by the end of the day),” he said.  “Maybe four back, hopefully, if it’s not too bunched up.”

“But the conditions don’t seem to be getting much worse out there. The greens will bake out a little bit. We got some work to do this weekend. I’m going to have to shoot a couple more rounds like today.”

The heat didn’t seem to bother Spieth, either.

“There was a little breeze. It’s not as hot as it is at home right now,” he said.  “But compared to the last couple weeks we had some nice weather, so it was getting up there.”
